So I’m a few days late on this but…
Just before they set off on separate holidays, Will and Waity were photographed taking a casual walk on a public beach. To make sure that we, the public, took the photos seriously and didn’t brush them off as a staged photo-op, Clarence House made sure to complain about the photographs. After all, what better way to lend credibility to a set of photographs than to say they are an ‘invasion of one’s privacy’.. especially when walking on a public beach.
Below, a few observations of their body language.. in particular Prince William’s tendency to keep his hands in his pockets
- “Hiding the hands may indicate a desire not to communicate or not to collaborate, saying ‘I don’t want to talk with you’ or ‘I do not agree with you’. This may be done in a deliberate gesture of defiance, such as stuffing hands in pockets.”
- “Keeping your hands in your pocket is a sign that you are nervous or indifferent.”
- “Hands in pockets is a sign of disinterest, boredom… The obvious signal is one of inaction, and not being ready for action… Demonstrates apathy and lack of interest for the situation.”
- “Hands on ears: People fiddle with their own bodies in various ways when seeking comfort, but ear-pulling or tugging given suitable supporting signs can instead indicate indecision and related pondering… Gestures involving hands covering the ears signify a reluctance to listen and/or to agree with what is being said or to the situation as a whole. The gesture is occasionally seen by a person doing the talking, in which case it tends to indicate that other views and opinions are not wanted or will be ignored.”
In fact the only time Prince William appeared animated and actually took one of his hands out of his pocket was when he was motioning to the puppy.
